Lilian Wiens

Undergraduate Student

Lilian Maria Wiens, a Paraguayan Canadian, wrote her Honour’s thesis on the characterization of the globin genes of cyclostomes (BSc 2013), co-supervised by Dr. Kevin Campbell.

Lily subsequently pursued a Master’s thesis with Dr. Jay Treberg, working on the effect of temperature on heart mitochondrial physiology in temperate fish (MSc 2017), and she is currently a PhD candidate in the Treberg Lab, looking at the cellular aging process in lake trout and the metabolic profile of walleye in Lake Winnipeg.

In addition to her interest in aging, specifically the mitochondrial influence in senescence and the differences in the aging process in vertebrates, she has experience in teaching and tutoring science.
