Dr. Eleana Karachaliou

Ph.D.

Eleana completed her Ph.D. thesis in 2025 (co-supervised by Dr. Colin Garroway), studying anadromous sea lamprey population structure and demographic history and their implications to the conservation of this species’ in its native range in the North Atlantic Ocean. She also completed a synthesis of human-caused and environmental drivers of genetic diversity in global marine fish species, published in Molecular Ecology. After working as a UN Environment Program environmental data analyst intern in Panama, Eleana now works as a consultant for the International Seabed Authority—a perfect combination for her of both science and policy.
